General Information /News
Mackenzie Seniors Enjoy Record Run.
The Mackenzie Rugby Football Club Senior team has started off it's 50th Jubilee year with so far a record number of wins in a row with 10. And are on track to take out the combined South Canterbury & North Otago Competition. To date it has scored 475 pts for at a average of 47.5; while against only 13 pts have been scored. Damon Smith has 115 pts: Closely followed by Setie Kolie 110pts all tries 22 of them;Tevita (Rooster) Latu has 75 pts with 13 tries: Hayden Dwyer is showing great form buy crossing the line 10 times.
A highlight for the club last week was the selection of Andrew Milne into the N.Z. Divisional team that will play Samoa & Tonga. The first player since 1978, where Larnie Palmer played for the South Island in 1977 and Andrew's Uncle Bill Anderson was selected for the South Island in 1976, the same year as Noel Glass played for the N.Z. Colts. So far the Senior team has in it's Trophy Cabinet the following trophies: Len King Cup: 50th Jubilee Cup: Laddie Heath & Burnett Shields: Meredith Cup: While the Development team has secured the: Country Calendar Shield: Bob Bray Cup: Mt Cook Cup: It has reserved a space for the Aoraki Cup the Combined Competition winner & the Old Bank Shield for the Local winning team. But as both Kent Adams & Mark Ryan the senior coaches say we only take one game at a time, and if you plan too far ahead this is when the wheels will fall off. (Watch this space to see how the team fares in there quest for those two trophies)

Saturday 14th June is when the first South Canterbury Squad is named and it will be interesting to see how many players make the squad.

On Saturday 21st June when the team will play the ever improving Geraldine side the club will be launching it's Jubilee book "TUSSOCK & LEATHER". which is a very well compiled history of rugby in the Mackenzie since 1875 to 2003 including some extracts from the Jubilee. Also the decade photos are now available and can be ordered through the club.
